Girl Scouts help girls grow strong in Cherokee County

Thank you for your generous support of the
Cherokee County Fund Drive!
Approximately 80 girls in Cherokee County are members of Girl Scouts. Patti Blum, the Cherokee & Aurelia Service Unit Manager, has been a Girl Scout leader for 30 years. She believes strongly in the program and has seen it evolve over the last 30 years. Blum says that Girl Scouts help girls in grades K-12 to develop the ability to deal with life's situations with courage, confidence, and character.

The Cherokee County Fund Drive is essential as an additional financial support to the Girl Scout units in Cherokee County. The funds remain in Cherokee County and are used to provide low-income girls with age-level appropriate resources such as their handbooks and badge books. The funds also aid in purchasing their sashes and badges they earn while participating in Girl Scouts. In addition, the funds also stretch to help with special events and ceremonies, many service projects, and day camp scholarships.

This year the Cherokee County Fund Drive donations will help sponsor a week-long day camp for the girls. Blum says their goal is to provide more camping experiences for the girls and more girls can participate if funding is available.

In addition to providing financial support people are also welcome to volunteer with Girl Scouts. Blum adds, "We are always looking for adult volunteers so our services can be provided for more girls. Girl Scouts is a lot more that crafts and games. We try to inspire girls to reach their goals." The badge work provides a way for girls to explore what interests they may have in a variety of fields. Along the way they develop leadership skills to become future leaders in their communities.
