CAASA helps victims achieve safety in Cherokee County

Thank you for your generous support of the
Cherokee County Fund Drive!
Skyla Edwards, Sexual Abuse Victims Advocate for Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault (CAASA) has been working in the human services field for the past ten years. Throughout her career she has seen the devastating impacts of sexual abuse on the individual victims as well as families involved. Unfortunately, she also sees continued misunderstanding and revictimization that occurs, even by professionals with human services training. She says CAASA is her opportunity to utilize her professional skills to help victims, other professionals, and community members to develop a stronger understanding of sexual violence.

Edwards is a Certified Sexual Abuse Victim Advocate for Cherokee, Clay, and O'Brien counties. She works with victims of sexual abuse to hlep them achieve safety. She sees adults and children for counseling and provides advocacy as needed for her clients. She also provides presentations to community organizations, including schools, to spread awareness and education about abuse and sexual assault. Along with providing sexual abuse prevention, she also coordinates annual fundraisers to raise money for sexual abuse victim services.

In Cherokee County CAASA provides a 24-hour Crisis Line and Crisis Intervention for Sexual Abuse Victims. For emergency assistance people can call the sexual abuse crisis line at 1-877-362-4612.
