Associated Charities long history in Cherokee County

Thank you for your generous support of the
Cherokee County Fund Drive!

There are always individuals and families who are in need of just a little extra financial support once in a while. Associated Charities was formed in Cherokee County sometime in the 1960's to help with those types of needs. It's a fairly simple process with a three member board who work to together to decide how best to help those making the request for assistance. Chairman, Wilma Starkey has been with Associated Charities since 1963 and is the person to call to begin the process of getting assistance.

Starkey and her board members, Lorri Stevenson, and Norma Robbins, work from their homes so there is no office to take up funds that can be used to assist people. Funding for Associated Charities comes strictly from donations through the Cherokee County Fund Drive and individual donations made directly to Associated Charities. When the funds are used up from helping people the board has to wait until the next Cherokee Fund Drive or other direct donations to continue their work.

Associate Charities helps anyone in Cherokee County in need of financial assistance. They usually provide money to help for medical expenses, transportation, utilities and other types of living expenses. In order to help as many individuals and families as they can they limit the amount of funds given to any one family or individual. They also only help a family or individual one time during any given year. Last year Associated Charities were able to help 19 families and individuals. As of right now their funds are depleted and they are waiting for the next round of funding from the Cherokee County Fund Drive to continue their work in assisting families in Cherokee County.
